Health is a National Strategic Imperative

On 18-19 February 2015, the National Defense University hosted the fifth Interagency Health Leaders Roundtable (IHLR). The event was co-sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (ASD/HA), the Honorable Dr. Jonathan Woodson, and the President of the National Defense University (NDU), MajGen Frederick Padilla, with coordination through the NDU Joint Medical Chair for Global Health (JMC), COL Roberto Nang.

The overall theme of this roundtable was, “Health is National Strategic Imperative.” In addition to plenary sessions, the event featured three breakout sessions: a) Global Health, b) Interagency Health Leadership Development and c) Innovation and Technology.  Approximately one hundred O5/O6 equivalent organizational leaders, general/flag officers, and Senior Executive Service level directors attended the Roundtable. They represented the Department of Defense (DoD), the Military Health System, Federal health system agencies, and other interagency partners. The roundtable also included student attendees from NDU, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU), as well as the Health Occupations Students of America.
